The FF characters are mostly young. Why?

It seems like they would want a mix of young, middle-aged, and old, but then again, maybe not. Anyway, younger players could engange in more action I suppose. Also they would be good for young adult romance stuff.

I believe its probably because of the action packed tendency in the Final Fantasy games that encourages its usage of young characters, not that old characters can't give a good fight as well but it's a little more cool when the fight comes from young folks. Who says that young people don't engage in love and romance? Theirs is even more interesting than the oldies.

I think FF game was designed keeping the young teen age group. And they managed to promote the entire series to them. I guess that is one of the reason why most of the characters. And also the story line is young in the game series. And that will continue to be a trend.

I think it's ok for all the characters to be young-but they really act older and more experienced than they are sometimes. Also I think that the players in Japan tend to be younger, so they probably skew them that way. I think they could add some more older characters to Final Fantasy though-what do you think ?

True that seems to be the issue with many anime and manga too. The age and maturity does not work around. And with game even more so. But then again that's how the gaming and manga industry works.

My observation is that Final Fantasy games is meant for the young folk because of the inclusion of more youth characters in it. It's not that old people aren't meant to be part of the Final Fantasy fanbase but it's more likely to be dominated by the younger generation.

That's one good capture of all many characters in the game, this looks nice but it's pretty obvious that the young teens outnumbers the old ones by a higher margin. I have this preference for female characters in Final Fantasy games, they look so cute.

Yeah, I will agree with you. It is mostly the young people who take part in playing the final fantasy games, and therefore would like to use characters who are their agemets. Rarely will the elderly play the FF games.

For the fact that a very good number of people are playing Final Fantasy games are still within younger age range, it would be a bad business strategy to make the characters to be of older which would deter them from playing more.

In the US the most popular characters are Brown haired 30 year old white guys and women on her 20's with big boobs. In Japan they prefer teens. I mean even the serials targeted to adults have teenage protagonists in Japan. They find teenagers cooler.

There are some changes now though. I mean in Anime, Goku is now 40 years old.

I agree. Japan has a thing for younger leads, and the game's genre is full of action, so it's way better to go with teen characters. It serves another purpose like if there are plans to make a love story of some sort in the game. It would be a little off if the personalities involved are significantly older. You will also notice that in a lot of animes.

Off topic: Did you know that in Japan, they have this fetish over women with crooked teeth because according to the Japanese such features make women look younger, weird eh?

It is pretty much the same with picking a woman to date, the younger, the better. Haha!

I think that one thing that makes Square Enix to focus more on younger characters is because older characters are phasing out and the younger ones coming up. The older gamers are most likely to be replaced by the younger gamers, so building the game on old characters is a very bad move.

Final Fantasy characters don't really age though since they don't return unless there is subsequels.
