We're a little late on posting this one, but there's still time. Those who have abandoned their Final Fantasy XIV accounts (for at least 30 days) have been given a chance by Square to try the new Shadowbringers expansion free of charge. The offer expires on the 16th, so there's not much time left, but it's still active at least.
If you've never played Final Fantasy XIV at ALL, Square offers something more substantial: a free trial with no time limit, all jobs and classes accessible, and up to eight playable characters allowed. However your level is capped at 35.
The Shadowbringers offer is just part of the Moonfire Faire event, going on from now until the end of the month. If players are level 30 or above, they'll be able to participate in daily events and earn exclusive equipment and items. We'd describe some of these events to you, but they change on a daily basis, so keep an eye on this webpage for the latest updates.

Following the successful worldwide debut of FINAL FANTASY® XIV: Shadowbringers™ last month, SQUARE ENIX® invites players to return and experience the critically acclaimed MMORPG free for up to six days. Beginning today through August 16, 2019, players who have been inactive for at least 30 days can log into their game account and use the opportunity to reconnect with friends, enjoy ongoing seasonal events, or upgrade to the award-winning FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers expansion pack and begin their adventure in the First.

This free login campaign coincides with this year’s Moonfire Faire seasonal event. Players who are level 30 or higher are invited to celebrate summer festivities through Monday, August 26. A variety of challenges await participants, who can obtain a number of time-limited seasonal equipment and housing items.

Players new to FINAL FANTASY XIV Online are invited to download a free trial to access content up to level 35, create up to eight playable characters, and experience the different playable races, classes, and jobs with no restrictions on playtime.
