Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is the simplified, chibified version of Square Enix's latest FF that, due to its simpler graphical style, can be played on a wide variety of machines, from PCs to phones. As of today the list just got bigger: Pocket Edition is now available for the Universal Windows Platform.

What does that mean? "Universal" means any form of Windows can play the game now: PC, laptops and Surface tablets. (Microsoft says nothing about Windows Phone, so don't hold your breath. Also, get a new phone.)

Square's press release has more information.

LOS ANGELES (June 6, 2018) FINAL FANTASY® XV POCKET EDITION is now available for the Universal Windows Platform and now playable on PC, laptops, and Surface tablets.

FINAL FANTASY® XV POCKET EDITION retells the story of crown prince Noctis and his brothers-in-arms, Prompto, Ignis and Gladiolus, across ten thrilling episodes. All ten episodes are available now, with the first episode at no charge and episodes 2 – 10 available for purchase individually or as a bundle.

With an adorable art style and casual controls, FINAL FANTASY XV POCKET EDITION takes the critically acclaimed title and makes it an adventure fans and newcomers alike can pick up, play and enjoy.

FINAL FANTASY XV POCKET EDITION is rated T (Teen). Please visit the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) website at www.esrb.org for more information about ratings.

This is good news. Personally, I don't really mind the chibi art style because I enjoyed playing Final Fantasy IX. The aesthetics adds to the charms that the Final Fantasy world has and this is why I must play the pc version.

I'm not a big fan of the so called chibi art style, nonetheless, it doesn't mean that I'm not going to play Final Fantasy XV on pc.

It seems like the pocket edition would be famous among the android and other devices too. It's good to see the release for universal windows platform. I am sure more fans would be downloading it now.

I like the chibi art style enough, and it uses the same storyline and voice acting as the original, so that's cool. That is really great that they can capture the original experience, and condense it down a bit, so it would work on phones or tablets. This Final Fantasy 15 pocket edition is a great way to play- and have that RPG experience on the go!

Why did they put it as Universal Windows platform if it doesn't include windows phones? Is it because no one owns a windows phone anymore?
