I'm a die-hard turn-based player. Remake's release forced me to grudgingly diversify and improve my action game skills, but Standard operating procedure has been a steep learning curve for me. Though I feel that I have to think faster in these action games, I truly enjoy playing them. In addition, my brain has a hard time keeping up with everything, let alone the coordination required.

The game was recently finished by me, although I was only able to beat it in Story mode. I really need some advice if I want to keep playing and try the harder difficulties. Has anyone got any tips for me to sharpen my action combat abilities in this game?

Simply learn and comprehend the game mechanics. The game will provide you with the tools you need to advance. But for the fundamentals, learn to dodge and/or block, and always stay locked on (this should be obvious, but I've seen some people literally not do it).

Then concentrate on the items provided by the game. Choose a job, create your combos, and practice them until they become second nature. I find it easier to focus on maximizing break damage. Or an elemental flaw. Use gear that provides the desired affinities to accomplish this.

Also, hitting from behind will critical hit, so practice dodging to get behind the enemy. You'll get it.

They give you a good set of defensive mechanics to get by in this particular game.

I'm not going to overwhelm you with build ideas, but do your best to use your defensive options.

Guard is fantastic in this game. When you can reliably dodge, use it to preserve your break gauge.

Dodge for unblockables, repositioning, or when your break gauge is low.

Soul shield for mp gain and as a last resort defensive mechanic because it drains your break gauge.

Lightbringer: use this to recover when your break gauge is low, to recover from a broken stagger state, or to gain invincibility on activation if you are unable to dodge an unblockable in time. When you're in a bind, this clutch mechanic comes in handy.

Command abilities such as sentinel and runic protection are excellent defensive abilities.

Ustusemi from Ninja is another fantastic defensive ability that shields you for any three hits.

EVERY mechanic should be learned. Make use of EVERY mechanic.
I used to soul shield every attack because I didn't see the value in blocking, but learning when to block and when to soul shield is a game changer.

Changing jobs provides you with a new break gage, allowing you to soul shield longer combo strings from bosses for massive MP returns.

Choose and use combo abilities that suit your play style. Because I play aggressively, I rely heavily on magic regeneration and mighty strikes/lancet to fuel my MP consumption. (Don't be concerned about what other players are doing. If you see a build that uses summon tachi and it isn't working for you, try invisible for more breathing room.)

Play on the most difficult mission level. This game is heavily reliant on equipment. Fortunately, getting a usable set for the purposes of surviving a mission for more gear grinding doesn't take long.

Finally, optimize your equipment. Making builds with different synergies is the most enjoyable aspect of this game for me. Dark knight 400 / berserker 250 are popular melee setups. Ninja as a sub job with 120 summoner can also assist you in escaping death spirals. (Utsusemi chain canceling, 250 samurai for in combat stacks, and it comes with a seriously nice damage buff)
