Around 2003, Square Enix created this 37
episode anime. This anime is not adapted from the games as you won't see prominent game characters here aside from the chocobos, monsters and summons. This Anime has its own lore characters.

The main character of this game is a gun slinging man and 2 damsel children he have to protect.

Sadly this show was cancelled.

I think if they will make an FF anime again, it should have game characters. A crossover might be good.

I'm not surprised the show was canceled because how inappropriate it was by not using the characters that were meant for it to be incorporated in the anime. I'm sure it would be remade in a proper way it's meant to be with the characters that should be in it.

I guess they want it to be stand alone just like those Resident evil movies that has nothing to do with the games.

I think an adaption of 6,7,8 and 10 would have been a bigger hit.

I think FF people came up with many good anime and OVA. I remember the cloud vs sephiroth story is now part of one animated movie. Also there are few of the other FF movies too. I think the issue is FF series is not consistent so it's hard to make anime fans to come play those games.

Each numbered Final Fantasy game excluding 1 and 2 are stand alone stories with their own universes. I think that is a hindrance for an adaptation.

The flaw of this Anime is that FF is known for team work and this Anime made the support characters into fragile damsels.

I think maybe they could have put more thought into this anime series called Final Fantasy Unlimited, that was based on the Final Fantasy series-but the anime market is pretty competitive. I think this series went only one season, because the ratings were to bad for a second season. It's about a pair of twins that go looking for their scientist parents.

Part of the reason this failed is probably because it actually had little to do with FF. I think it was pretty popular in Japan though.
They should have just followed the story of one of the games.

They tried getting it to be on level terms with the setting and plot of Resident Evil but I wouldn't it was fully successful. Some things aren't just meant to click no matter how much you push and try it to get to a particular desired level.

Not really. Not even the first Resident Evil movie was close to the games, although it was the best one. Sequels went into the "eye-rolling" territory. I believe there was another script, produced by George Romero, that was closer to the games but it was pretty awful otherwise so it wasn't filmed.

What I grasped from the whole thing was that they were doing trail and error with with the bid to get exactly what they were looking for and possibly what the fans would appreciate, which was why even at the worst production of these ones, it was still brought out for people to play :D.

Well, fans don't exactly appreciate these movies. I'm not sure that Capcom has any control over what Paul Anderson or whatever his name is, is doing with the movies.

Fans of the Resident evil games hates the movies but people who dont play video games loves the movies because it has zombies and a hot chick Mary Sue on it. It is very successful though.

I think that is what this Anime tried. It is stand alone but with elements of the game. Final Fantasy is known for Team work but the main characters of this Anime are 2 damsel in distress weakling 12 year olds.

Kaze , the main Hero have a very repetitive and boring fighting style and everyone relies on him.

Yeah, that's it pretty much. I'm not sure the movies are that successful, but they clearly are low-budgeted so it doesn't take that much for them to earn money.
Why aren't any decent directors willing to make movies based on big and successful video game series ? All we ever got was trash from Uwe Boll and Paul Anderson.

Most of the time Fan made materials are much more better than Hollywood adaptations. Look at Spirits Within, there is nothing Final Fantasy about it.

I think the Anime might have been more successful if the support cast are useful and Kaze have more personality.

I dunno about that. Fan made stuff is often cringy as hell, if I am being honest.

I prefer the Light of Hope Dragonball z movie over Evolution. I also prefer the Street Fighter Assasin's fist fan movie over any Hollywood adaptation. Fanmade can have more passion and heart despite of the shortages in budget.

Back to the topic, If Square want to make a standalone Final Fantasy anime again, I think they should make the characters more interesting. No more weakling characters like those annoying twins. No more cold empty vessel protagonist like Kaze.
