Eversince we have voice acting, we cannot rename main characters anymore.

I just realized we cannot rename characters anymore ever since final fantasy 12. Many people say that voice acting is the reason but Final Fantasy X have voice acting. They just don't mention Tidus' name because he is nameable. 11 and 14 gives us the option to name the characters because these games are MMORPGs with no clear plot and you make your very own characters. I guess scripting the voice acting of X had been hard for script writers because they don't sound natural.

I remember renaming Squall so I will be him the first time I played.

Some people though are disrespectful with naming. I remember seeing someone playing Final fantasy 7 renaming Cloud after a private body part. I think Square enix would like to avoid that from happening again because it disrespect their characters

I don't mind losing the renaming ability as long as I can customize the character. If we can do it in the multiplayer games then we should be able to do it in the single player games.
