What exactly were some pros and cons, if any, of the early versions, compared to the later? When did you start playing Final Fantasy, early or later? If you were to command the future of FF which time would you model - if any?
Earlier FF was 2D and had platformer feel. And then it moved to zelda type adventure. And then now we have the 3D animated game. Lot of things changed over a period of time. You can see that FF has it's set of limitations on that part. You just have to understand how that works out.
The graphics and characters are the major upgrades in the Final Fantasy games of the early days and the recent ones. The weapons too shouldn't be overlooked as well. In as much as the early Final Fantasy games were good but the current ones beat it in a million miles.
I guess you are talking old school against the new school debate-and old school would be everything before Final Fantasy 7- I would guess ? A lot of people would say the old games were better because the graphics did not get in the way of the plot and characters- but of course the new games look better. Some of the old school Final Fantasy games do rock though !
The game started having voice acting in 10. Imagine 7,8 and 9 are in 3d but it has no voice acting. Same 3d games of that generation actually have voice acting but it took a long while. Legend of Dragon is a JRPG of the same generation as 7 , 8 and 9 but that one has voice acting on it.
The reason the games are remade with 3D and the summons is this. Because earlier games had no such 3D feel and no voice over and persona of the type. So that limited a lot of growth. I am seeing square enix is making most out of remakes now.
