It's a huge day for Dragon Quest fans on Switch....the first three games in the series have all been released simultaneously on the platform. Head to the Eshop now and you'll find DRAGON QUEST ($4.99), DRAGON QUEST II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line ($6.49) and DRAGON QUEST III: The Seeds of Salvation ($12.49). Why the price increases? It's lost on me.

The games originally appeared on the NES back in the early 90s under the title Dragon Warrior, due to a trademark dispute in the States. While today both Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are produced by the same company, DQ is a more traditional series compared to the "realistic" and constantly changing Final Fantasy. The standard Hero's Journey plotline rarely changes, the enemies (frequetly smiling blobs of slime) never change, and the charming art by Akira Toriyama remains the series' signature look.

Square's press release tells more.

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 27, 2019) – SQUARE ENIX® announced today that the first three games in the beloved DRAGON QUEST™ RPG franchise are now available for Nintendo Switch™. The releases are perfect for long time fans, as well as newer players looking to experience a slice of gaming history with these influential classics. Each game in the legendary Erdrick trilogy may be purchased separately as a digital download from the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch, including DRAGON QUEST ($4.99), DRAGON QUEST II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line™($6.49) and DRAGON QUEST III: The Seeds of Salvation® ($12.49).

In the iconic DRAGON QUEST series, players embody a hero and embark on a quest to save the world, exploring environments and dungeons filled with monsters and magic. The series became a cultural milestone in gaming and a foundational influence on the RPG genre upon its original launch in Japan in 1986.

“Whether you’re a new player or returning to the series, this is where the magic of DRAGON QUEST all began,” said DRAGON QUEST Series Game Designer, Yuji Horii. “I hope that the retro gameplay brings you a smile as you, the Hero, experience an epic journey.”

The three-part saga begins with an epic journey as the “Hero,” a legendary descendent of Erdrick, through the enchanting realm of Alefgard. A century later, in DRAGON QUEST II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, players will work as a young prince of Midenhall as he sets out with his cousins -- two additional descendants of Erdrick -- to defeat an evil wizard named Hargon. The third title of the Erdrick saga, DRAGON QUEST III: The Seeds of Salvation, has players travel through the land of Aliahan, where a young hero embarks on a quest to save the world from the wickedly evil and impenetrable Demon Lord, Baramos.

All three titles are available now digitally for the Nintendo Switch system and are rated T (Teen) by the ESRB.

Anyone who notice the characters having the same art style with Dragon Ball Z? Well the characters are designed by Akira Toriyama.

Wait, I thought the older versions closed? I played the first one and the second one a long time ago, but I thought they have closed. I'm pretty sure I'd love to check out the 3rd one. Didn't know.
